Document editing
With much of my past writing proprietary and difficult or impossible to share, I've included some editing work I do for the local VFW Post. I volunteer to edit and produce their monthly newsletter.
My editing philosophy is to work hard to maintain the author's voice while negotiating grammar and clarity issues.

Brochure
This brochure, "Suicide Prevention Information for Veterans and Active Duty Military Personnel," was created as a class project to inform and educate the veteran and active duty military communities about suicide and the resources available to them.
Like many veterans, I deployed many times, and I know more people who took their own lives afterward than those who were killed downrange. When I was in the military, I saw many brochures, but few were very compelling. I tried to rectify that.
I chose to include images of both men and women. While I was in the military, I cannot ever remember seeing a suicide prevention brochure or pamphlet that included photos of women. I wanted this brochure to be more inclusive and better represent the diversity within the military and veteran communities.

Infographic
This infographic was a school project that was produced to inform and educate gamers about the benefits of playing video games and the consequences of playing too long and too often. There are also statistics about the people who play video games in the U.S., as well as tips on how to ensure players follow safe and healthy gaming habits.
The audience for this infographic is video game players aged 12 to 112. The main imagery is large, colorful and eye-catching. It can grab the attention of a younger audience yet still impart information to an adult audience. All gamers have experience with monsters, and I felt this imagery was relatable to both young and mature alike.
I also made a conscious effort to include females and people of color. While they were left out of the video game world for a long time, many mainstream, triple "A" games are now created with characters that are women or people of color — or both.

Photography
I have done some professional and freelance photography. This is an example of some wedding photos I did a few years ago. While I didn’t get to choose the time of day this shoot happened, I scouted the location and think the blossom-filled apple orchard offers a lovely background for this happy couple.
Podcast
This project arose from a class assignment to create a podcast series and then produce one podcast episode within that series.
The "Ancient Healing Wisdom" podcast series was created to educate people with beginner to intermediate knowledge of ancient healing practices by learning more from subject matter experts. This series of podcasts was designed to shed light on historical practices and explore the relevance of these practices in modern times.
In this podcast episode, I explore shamanism by sharing research and interviewing Amiee Elizabeth, a shaman and a somatic and intuitive healer. I also spent a weekend with her at a retreat to learn more about this ancient healing art.
I recorded and edited the podcast myself. I downloaded free music and recorded the drumming and natural sounds at the retreat. I worked hard to weave the audio to share information and keep listeners engaged and interested in learning more.
